Great Detox Tools

When we are cleansing our body it is always a great idea to keep in mind we want to clean from the inside to the outside. Here are some great detox tools to do just the trick.

Skin Brushing

Dry body brushing is a traditional natural health practice which involves brushing over the skin dry followed by a shower or bath to cleanse.

What are the benefits?

  • Removes dead layers of skin and other outer impurities

  • Helps stimulate and increases blood circulation around the body

  • Helps release fatty deposits under your skin surfaces

  • Can assist with the elimination of toxins from your body’s organs

  • Rejuvenates your cells

  • Strengthens your immune system

  • Increases muscle tone

  • Improves skin texture

  • Helps prevent premature skin ageing (this is a big plus!)

My suggestions for you:

  1. It's best to do it first thing in the morning before a shower. Start with a light pressure until you get use to the sensation. Once comfortable, try and increase pressure for better results.

  2. Be picky with the brush you choose, try and stay away from synthetic or nylon brushes as they can damage the skin.

  3. Best to start with the soles of your feet and work your way up your legs towards your heart. Once completed do the same starting from your hands and along your arms towards your heart.

  4. If you're lucky enough to have someone at home, get them to brush your back. If not get creative or find a brush with a handle.

  5. Time to focus on your abdominal area. Work clockwise in a circular motion. This helps promote colon health and movement.

  6. I do not recommend brushing your face or any broken/irritated skin.

  7. Never share your brush with anyone else, it's breeding ground for bacteria! Make sure you wash it regularly.

  8. Skin brushing should range from 3-5 minutes, or however long you can handle it… you know you are done when your skin is slightly red and has a bit of a tingle to it.

ACTIVATED COCONUT CHARCOAL SUPPLEMENT (ONLY ONE CAPSULE)

Activated coconut charcoal is mainly used to remove toxins from the body, it is great to use when consuming food of unknown quality, eating out at restaurants, or drinking alcohol. If you are feeling moody or suddenly tired, activated charcoal can act as a detox and get you back in the game faster.

You can either take the tablet on an empty stomach first thing in the morning If you are feeling super adventurous below is something you can do to triple the potency of the charcoal for your gut health and overall toxin reduction.

Charcoal Teeth Brushing

You will need:

1 x glass

1 x charcoal tablet

2 x squeeze of tooth paste

1 x tooth brush (your usual one is fine)

  • Pull open the charcoal tablet (slowly) and empty to contents into the glass

  • Put the glass 1 x squeeze of tooth paste

  • Wet your brush and then use it to combine the charcoal and toothpaste in the jar. Using your brush as a scoop, take as much of the contents as you can onto your brush and start brushing. This includes brushing your tongue, the roof of your mouth and your gums. Yes, your whole mouth will go black, yes its strange, but its also kind of fun and bad-ass.

  • Please DO NOT swallow any of the contents you are brushing with, “better out than in” is the motto here.

  • Next, rinse and clean your brush and your mouth. Take some more tooth paste and brush your teeth for the second time as per normal, with no added charcoal. This is just to clean off any residue that’s left behind.

OIL PULLING

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for twenty minutes or a minimum of 5 minutes (pulling it between your teeth) before spitting it out. Whatever you do, do not swallow the oil. You will ingest the toxins you are trying to wipe out!! I oil pull on the way to work (seriously, I do).

Always brush your teeth with an all-natural fluoride-free toothpaste (my favorite brand is ‘Natural Grants of Australia' natural fluoride-free xylitol toothpaste) and rinsing your mouth out. And you’re done! It really is that easy.

You can use any form of oil, but I find using organic pressed coconut oil or Macadamia oil the best in terms of texture and taste. Oil pulling can really help your body from the inside out as the mouth is home to millions of bacteria, fungi, viruses and other toxins- oil pulling acts like a cleanser, pulling out the nasties before they get a chance to spread throughout the body.

Other benefits include;

  • Whitens teeth

  • Increases energy

  • Detoxes the body from the inside and out

  • Aids hormonal changes

  • Reduces head aches

  • Promotes oral hygiene

  • Helps keep skin clean and clear

  • Helps bad breath

REMEMBER, you may not see results immediately, but persevere and watch the magic happen!

Tongue Scraping

From an Ayurvedic perspective, tongue scraping should be performed on a daily basis. This ancient practice on a daily basis. This ancient practice helps to stimulate the internal organs through energetic connections with the rest of the body. It improves digestion by increasing your sense of taste, and cleanse the body by removing bacteria from your oral cavity. It also creates a connection from your taste buds to your brain to help break the addictive food memories. It's a great tool for when you have been snacking on something you feel guilty over, brush your teeth and tongue scrape, and your taste buds won't remember so they can't send messages to your brain that you want more. BEST TIP EVER!
