5 Minutes With Jess

Age 31, I live locally in Caulfield and grew up in Bayside in Beaumaris. For several years I worked in marketing at places such as NAB in their Broker Partnerships team, and outdoor apparel retailer Helly Hansen. I got married to a Kiwi in 2013 after we met on a ski holiday in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and travelled the world together. I became a qualified personal trainer in 2015 and have trained at StudioForty6 for just over a year with Aiden as well as attending many of the group sessions.

 

We asked her to give us a full insight into her healthy life:

 

Training philosophy in one sentence – Keep breathing and smile!

 

Fave daily workout - I dunno- I like to mix it up so everyday is different. I listen to my body and what it needs and try to match that up with what’s happening in my head and hopefully (not always) I can get inspired to do something.

 

Why StudioForty6 - I’ve trained here for a year and straight away I knew this was a place I would love to work. The classes are great for their variety and the trainers are so knowledgeable so you know you are in good hands.

 

Fave motivational quote - There is no reality except the one contained within us- Hermann Hesse

 

Daily breakfast- Fave breakfast at the moment is home made porridge with delicious toppings including almonds, honey, apple, chia seeds and coconut flakes. Mmmmm…

How do you take your coffee? No coffee for me, but I enjoy EB tea and Matcha tea to get me going.

 

5 staples always in my pantry

1. Vegemite

2. 85% Lindt chocolate

3. Eggs

4. Spinach

5. Apples

 

Go to juice or smoothie -.Green Smoothie : ½ frozen banana, kiwi fruit, cup spinach, ½ avocado, juice from 1 lemon, teaspoon matcha tea, coconut water, celery stick.

 

Strange wellness habit - I try to eat a bowl of Pho once a week. I drive to Hanoi Hannah or Wat the Pho to get my weekly fix.

 

Training tool obsession - I suppose it would have to be the basic step platform. I didn’t realise how often I use it in my training but it would almost be every session when I think about it.

 

5 Dream dinner dates

1. Jake Gyllenhaal (cause he’s hot)

4. David Attenborough (cause I love his documentaries)

2. Kelly Slater (cause I want to learn how to surf)

3. The Delhi Lama (to learn his wisdom)

5. Donald Trump (so I can punch him in the face)

 

Fave things to cook for friends - We have an outdoor pizza oven so I love having people around to watch them get their hands dirty. Nothing’s better than asking people around for dinner and then making them cook for you.

 

Wine, spirits or cocktails - Yes please- all of the above + beer

 

Fave training activity besides the studio - I love trail running with my dog Alfie around the many awesome trail runs around Melbourne

 

Summer or winter - Definitely summer. Everything’s better when it’s warm.

 

I love this book - A modern way to cook- Anna Jones (best vegetarian cook book I’ve found)

 

At least once a week I try and... - Meditate for 20 minutes

 

Room I hang out in the most at home - At the moment it’s where the heater is…

 

Fave countries to travel to - New Zealand, Austria, Spain

 

Must have app - Sustainable Seafood Guide- it helps you choose sustainable seafood to buy based on what’s endangered and the way the fish are caught.

 

Your fave healthy recipe to cook at home -.Almond bounty bars.
